چکیده

The aim of this paper was to find any alterations in flash visual evoked potentials (FVeP) after preand postnatal exposure to zn in rats. 18 white adult Wistar rats drank tap water containing 50ppm of znSo4 x 7H2o and ate pelleted food during 21 days of pregnancy. 14 pregnant rats of the control group drank only tap water. 10 newborn rats from pure (without prenatal zn exposure) breeding had the oral zn supplementation with the same dose of zn for 21 postnatal days. The fluid consumption of each dam and each offspring rat was monitored daily. every rat during the whole period consumed about 66.15mg of pure zn. The offsprings were divided into three groups: prenatal zn group (18 rats), postnatal zn group (10 rats) and control group (14 rats). The FVeP recordings were made using the uTaS 1000 LkC electrophysiologically interfaced personal computer system (uSa), with Ganzfield stimulation in all groups every 5 min for 30 min. The decrease in the latencies and increase in the amplitudes of N1 and P1 waves were observed in both zn groups in comparison to the control, but only in the prenatal zn group were the changes statistically significant. The maternal zn supplementation may have a beneficial influence on visual cortical responses

Influence of dopamine on flash visual evoked potentials (FVEP) in prenatally mercury intoxicated rats.

The female adult white Wistar rats were given tap water (control) or 50 ppm of methylmercury chloride (MMC) ad libitum throughout their pregnancies. Newborn rats drank mother's milk during the first 21 days after delivery and then only tap water. The study was carried out on three-month old offsprings of white Wistar rats. The flash visual evoked potentials (FVEP) were recorded before and after...

Effect of color of flash stimulus on variability of flash visual evoked potential latencies.

Visual Evoked Potentials (VEPs) are evoked potentials generated in response to visual stimuli. The flash VEP (FVEP) is used less frequently than pattern-reversal VEP (PR-VEP) because; it shows great variations in both latency and amplitude in normal subjects. The advantage of FVEP is its feasibility in non-cooperative subjects, which circumvents the major limitation of PR-VEP. The present study...

Using visual evoked potentials for the early detection of amnestic mild cognitive impairment: a pilot investigation.

OBJECTIVE Amnesic mild cognitive impairment (MCIa) is often characterized as an early stage of Alzheimer's dementia (AD). The latency of the P2, an electroencephalographic component of the flash visual evoked potential (FVEP), is significantly longer in those with AD or MCIa when compared with controls. The present investigation examined the diagnostic accuracy of several FVEP-P2 procedures in ...

Neonatal visual evoked potentials in infants born to mothers prescribed methadone.

OBJECTIVE Drug misuse in pregnancy is associated with impaired infant visual development. Pilot data showed abnormal flash visual evoked potentials (VEPs) in neonates exposed to methadone in utero, but results were confounded by intrauterine growth restriction, gestation, and ongoing drug misuse. This large cohort study aimed to clarify the effects on neonatal flash VEPs of maternal drug misuse...

Clinical application of electrophysiological markers in the differential diagnosis of depression and very mild Alzheimer's disease.

BACKGROUND Current evidence indicates that, on their own, neither flash visual evoked responses (FVEPs) nor event related potentials (ERPs) are sufficiently useful to the clinician in the very early stages of memory dysfunction. However, the possibilities for the combined use of these measures has not been fully explored. METHODS This study examined the clinical utility of combined FVEP and E...
